United Nations World Issues Reflection

#1 Think about the presentations and reflect on the projects your classmates presented and the information you listened to. Explain with details and specific information what you learned, what you found interesting, surprising, or shocking about the presentations you heard in class.

I think that all the topics we covered in our class were really interesting to listen to. I was really shocked when I heard some child soldiers are only 7 years old, and then 1/3 of the army are girls. To bad, I did not hear why some of the children are so young… I was also a bit shocked when I heard there are so may refugees, because of the many wars in Iraq and Iran. I can’t believe that they just continue those stupid wars!! I think, again, that everyone did a really good job to make the presentations interesting! Well done!

#2 What would you change to improve your project/presentation if you were to do the assignment again?

I would have done it a bit more organized, because our powerpoint presentation was a real mess. I would also have made a notecard for the presentation, because I forgot everything, and I just read it from the powerpoint! Next time, I think I would chose to do an IMovie as well, because it is much nicer, and more organized.

UN Focus Group Forum Question

We had question number 2:

Discuss whether you feel the U.N.’s power should be increased to have enforcement authority over any nation or should it be decreased to only provide humanitarian aid when asked.

I feel that it actually should stay the same, because what happens when the UN has so much power? Terrorists will probably be against it, and I don’t know whether the UN will win against those horrible terrorists. I also don’t whether the world will then all be in peace, because how sad it sounds, but there are always good and bad people. If the UN gets more power, I don’t think that the terrorists people will become good, normal people, and if they would kill those terrorists, there will always be more. However, if it decreases, the Millennium Development goals they had set will never be achieved. And if countries ask for something after for example a war that is going on for a year, it might probably already be to late. And the poor people will never get help. So, I think it shouldn’t get more power neither less.
